Sales Roles

Startup sales is a pure sales role focused on revenue generation.

The work centres on outbound and inbound activity, pipeline building, and closing deals, with performance typically commission-led.

There are different types of roles depending on seniority and focus area of the sales funnel.

Business Development Representative (BDR)
For BDR

The BDR role is perfect for those with some sales or customer-facing experience.

A BDR has more involvement in setting up sales strategies (i.e. making cold calls, running demos & setting up email sequences). The role is most common in seed stage startups where a company has a product and an idea of target customers but hasn't yet set up their outreach tactics.

Common progression opportunities

Common progression includes to Account Executive.

While not every startup is “deep tech,” they are generally technology-led, scalable businesses that are actively hiring and have passed Jumpstart’s screening, making the platform suitable for people looking to engage with credible, fast-growing UK tech startups across multiple verticals.
