FAQs
The startup career accelerator.
Can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Contact us.
If you’re interested in accelerating your career at a top startup, Jumpstart is for you.
Take a look at our stream pages to find out the current role types we offer and backgrounds we look for.
We currently run 4 streams on Jumpstart, the Generalist, Marketing, Sales and Software Engineering streams. On every stream, you’ll get access to high-growth startup roles at top startups.
Our Generalist Stream is perfect for anyone with 0-3 years experience looking to accelerate their career and expand their skillset. Most alums from this stream end up in Founder Associate or Operations roles.
Our Marketing Stream is perfect for people with 0-3 years experience looking to accelerate their marketing career and enter the startup world. Most people on this stream end up in generalist marketing roles.
Our Sales Stream is great for anyone with 0-3 years experience (not necessarily in sales!) who are looking to take a step up or across in a sales role at a startup. Most alums from this stream end up in Sales Development Representative (SDR), Business Development Representative (BDR), or Account Executive roles.
Our Software Engineering Stream is perfect for junior and mid-level full-stack engineers who are looking to make an impact in a startup. In a startup software engineering role, you’ll be regularly collaborating with the wider company to drive customer impact and growth.
The experience levels on our website are not rigid.
If your experience sits just outside of these ranges, you’ll be on the more experienced edge of the scale, but you’ll still fit right within our expected range.
Those with more experience can expect to receive salaries closer to the upper end of the range (or sometimes higher).
Yes! We recommend applying 2 months before you’re looking to start a full time startup role.
We are able to consider applicants that are on a Graduate Visa (2 years post-study Visa), or able to obtain sponsorship themselves. However, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship to any candidates.
The final stage of the Jumpstart application process is a 45 minute interview with a member of the team.
Just prior to the interview, you will be given a 40 minute task to complete. The first half of the interview will focus on discussing this task, and the second half will focus on your interests and motivations in being part of the programme.
The case study changes for each stream but the interview structure (40 min case study + 45 min interview) is the same.
For the software engineering stream, rather than an interview, you’ll have a short introductory chat to learn more about Jumpstart.
You can expect to receive an update on your application status within 2-3 weeks of applying. If this date has passed, please contact us for an update.
We will only take your most recent application into consideration, so if you accidentally apply with the wrong CV/information etc. please resubmit your updated version!
If you initially applied for one stream, but have since decided you’d prefer to apply for a different stream, please re-submit your application using the application form for the appropriate stream.
We will only take your most recent application into consideration.
It’s free! There’s no cost to you or your salary.
All of the startups we work with are incredibly invested in their teams, and want to work with great people, so they pay us a fee when they hire someone through our programme (this fee is independent of you and your salary).
Absolutely! Contact us and we’ll put you in touch with alumni on the team.
If you’d like to find someone else who has completed the programme, feel free to reach out to any of our alumni on LinkedIn.
On average, it takes 4 weeks to secure a role (including interviewing with startups) and you can participate in Jumpstart whilst in full-time work.
We are here to support you to land a role and grow throughout your startup career.
Whilst you’re on the programme, you’ll have access to a package of practical interview support (including the Jumpstart team + Jumpstart alumni) and once you’ve landed a role, you’ll join the Jumpstart community for support throughout your career.
You can find out more about the support on offer on the stream pages.
All salaries are negotiable, but tend to be in this region, most often with shares or options on top:
Generalist: £30,000-£50,000, depending on experience, plus equity.
Marketing: £30,000-£50,000, depending on experience, plus equity.
Sales: £30,000-£50,000, depending on experience, plus equity and bonuses.
Software Engineering: varies depending on seniority of role.
Salaries vary by startups so if this is a bit below your expectations but everything else matches up, it’s worth applying anyway.
Not if you apply for a startup through Jumpstart! You may have heard the statistic that 99% of startups fail. Well, not our startups!
We hand-pick the lineup of startups for each cohort based on a number of criteria, including:
- Financial security: your startup will be well-funded or VC-backed!
- Impact and Innovation: we select startups that are having a positive impact on society, and are doing something different and exciting
- Support: we make sure our startups are ready and willing to put in the work to support you, and help you thrive in the startup world.
This means that any startup you join through Jumpstart will offer you a stable, supportive career. Plus, if there are any issues, the Jumpstart team will be on hand to support you.
